Wisteria Patchwork's Autumn Newsletter 2013
October has been a fabulous month. Such fabulous colours are in the hedgerows, trees and leaves; surely we must all feel inspired to sew? I am certainly influenced by the colours and hues I see all around me right now. One of the pieces I have on offer for a one day workshop, Fallen Leaves, was made because I loved the shape and colour of the leaves. Take a look at the photo; see if you would like to make this warm autumnal quilt.
After a warm and dry summer it's time now to lay in stores for our colder, darker days, I am talking here about sewing supplies! We have taken stock of new fabric lines and new Christmas fabrics, come in and see our new ranges.

Over the years I have designed many patterns and kits, lots are available in the shop. The kits are exceptional value and include everything you need to complete the project top, including binding, and in some cases wadding, backing and fusible web!! A number of the kits below also come as a pattern only, please ask if you would like one. Pattern prices vary from as little as £5.50 each.

We must have the largest collection of batik fabric for miles, the photo is of just a part of my extensive range! They are lovely fabrics to work with, why not include them when you are planning your next project. I mix batiks and prints with gay abandon in my work, but then with this collection to call on I would, wouldn't I?

One day workshop programme.
I am pleased to present my one day workshop programme. As places tend to go quickly please don't wait to book! If you wish to use one of our kits for your chosen workshop then please order one when you book your place. The kit will be reserved for you.

Fallen Leaves.
Tuesday 29th October 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.      Inspired by the range of colours in the trees right now plus our packs of ready cut leaves in stunning shades I made this small quilt. I cannot resist beautiful batiks and used only batiks as the perfect foil against the plain leaves. Make it as a wall hanging or small quilt - but make it! Machine sewn and machine appliqued, I appliqued by machine and quilted at the same time. Why not book the workshop to learn my style of quilt as you go machine applique or just because you need to make this piece! A kit is available to buy for this workshop.
Diamond Table Runner
. Wednesday 30th October 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
I first designed and made this table runner in 1999 and I'm still using my original! However as the new Christmas fabrics arrived I had a hankering to make it again with some of the new collections. It looks great updated and has many admirers. Why not make one of these runners with me? It's quick and straightforward even if you haven't made much patchwork and it is machine sewn for speed. The zigzag edges make it different and I will show you how to mitre those bindings to perfection.
Shadow Quilted Snowflake
. Friday 8th November 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
An older technique that I love which has been less fashionable of late. Let's see if we can turn it into the latest thing! My new design is of a snowflake placed under a layer of organza. This piece is quilted by hand to give a very soft and surprisingly quick finish just right for a table centre, wall hanging or bag front. Made using fat quarters of fabric it is economic too. Suitable for all levels of experience. A gentle hand sewing day. A kit is available to buy for this workshop.
Christmas tree skirt
. Friday 22nd November 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
Make this as a tree skirt or omit the split and make it as a table centre! Either way you are bound to impress! Rotary cut and machine sewn this skirt is suitable for people with basic cutting and patchwork skills as well as the more experienced quilter. Make this in non-Christmas fabric as a table centre and it can be used all year round. Use up some more of those scraps to make eight pine trees on this octagonal piece.
Lone Star
. Tuesday 26th November 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
What a lovely block the Lone Star is. Not made as often because it's trickier than most with its set in seams, but it is completely achievable if you know how. Let me guide you through the process.  Start by making one star to see how you like it then, like me, you may go on to make a full quilt. Machine sewn this workshop is suitable for people with rotary cutting skills and a little patchwork knowledge.
Charmed
. Wednesday 27th November 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
Use a Charm pack of coordinating squares and make something out of the ordinary. We have plenty of charm packs for you to choose from so your quilt does not have to have a Christmas feel like our sample does. The fabric in the packs have been put together by the designers of the fabric ranges and someone else has cut all the fabrics to 5" squares ready for you to sew! They take all the worry about coordinating fabrics and colours away from you. Once you have a pack you are off! I will show you how to cut and sew these squares back into a superb small quilt that will have everyone marvelling at your patchwork skills. Machine sewn for speed this workshop is suitable for most people. All you need is a little basic patchwork experience and a sewing machine.
Celtic Christmas.
Thursday  28th November 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
The last time I ran a Celtic knot class it was oversubscribed and I promised to run another one this season. This is my new design called, appropriately, Celtic Christmas. A knot made in two colours of bias with a Poinsettia on the edge, perfect for a cushion or centrepiece of a Christmas quilt. This piece is hand sewn with bias you will make yourself. A kit for this workshop is available to buy if you would like to make one like mine or you can use your own fabrics.
Shadow Quilted Candle
. Friday 29th November 2013. 10am to 4pm. £25.
Another opportunity to make a shadow quilted design. This piece is made in the same way as the snowflake (above) but this time with a much more intricate design. Sewn under a layer of organza (red organza, surprisingly) this piece takes a little longer to prepare but is sewn and quilted at the same time. Hand sewn this is a workshop suitable for all levels of experience. A kit is available to buy for this workshop.
Fabric Mosaic
. Friday 13th December 2013. 10am to 12.30pm £15.
This mosaic is made from larger pieces of fabric machine sewn together, then cut, to make the tiniest mosaic that folk will wonder how you have sewn!! Try the technique out in my morning workshop. You will need rotary cutting and machine skills to make this mosaic fabric which makes a perfect inset for Christmas projects, box tops or patchwork. Incorporated into your usual patchwork this mosaic fabric will bring together lots of separate colours. (It also uses some of those scraps we are always promising ourselves we will use up!!)
Origami Table Centre
. Friday 13th December 2013. 1.30pm to 4pm. £15. (See Fabric Mosaic picture above as example)
Made using one fat quarter this fabulous 10" octagonal piece is folded and folded again to make a unique, large, mock Cathedral window. Fill in the spaces left by the folds with bright fabric or the mosaic fabric you may have made in this morning's class! Plenty of scope for hand embellishment and quickly made too. A sewing machine is used for very simple seams at the beginning of the piece which is then completed by hand.
Special offer. Book both of the above half day classes and get them for £25!

Workshop Terms and Conditions.
The fee for a workshop is payable in advance and secures your place. Please phone or email to check availability. A requirements list will be sent on receipt of your payment. A refund will only be offered if 21 days notice is given of your cancellation, less a £5 administrative cost for each workshop cancelled. We retain the right to cancel a workshop, in which case your fee will be refunded in full.

New sampler Quilt Course.
Each season I begin a new sampler quilt course. This course is a fantastic way to learn as many patchwork and quilting techniques as I can fit into a twelve month course. My Sampler course has continued to be a firm favourite. Meeting once a month on a regular day you will make a quilt to be proud of. This course is designed specifically for beginners or people who want to improve their skills. You don't need a fancy sewing machine or loads of equipment just the enthusiasm to learn to make a beautifully coordinated quilt in your own chosen colours and fabrics. The next course will begin in January and will be held on the second Friday of each month for a year. If you are interested in learning more and can commit to a twelve month course please get in touch with me at lynne@quiltingontheweb.com <mailto:lynne@quiltingontheweb.com>.
Spaces on courses.
Occasionally places become available on one of my current courses. These courses are made up of experienced quilters who choose their own "syllabus" each term rather than follow a prescribed programme.  They meet on the same day each month for a day of quilting with tuition. If you have experience of patchwork and quilting, have completed a Sampler course with me in the past or would like to sew with a group with similar skills then why not talk to me about a place?
Places currently available on the second Thursday of the month, the third Tuesday of the month and the third Friday of the month.
If you are interested and want to know more then please email for further information.
I also run hand applique courses on Wednesdays and have space on my second Wednesday of the month group. No previous experience is required to join this group as everyone is working on projects of their choice at their own individual pace. A variety of hand stitched projects are on offer.
And don't forget.
We stock a terrific range of waddings at competitive prices. We stock Linen and cotton blends, soy protein and bamboo waddings, wool blend, plus 100% cotton and 100% polyesters. Finally we stock two 90" wide black waddings especially for the quilts you make with dark fabrics so that the fibres of white waddings do not migrate through the dark fabric to spoil their look. If you don't see what you are looking for please ask as the waddings are stored at the back of the shop.
Our Jelly Roll, Layer Cake and Charm Pack collections are second to none, see our extensive range next time you visit the shop. Charm Packs and Jelly Rolls are also available in our Christmas ranges.
On offer too are own exclusive Jelly Tot and Jelly Baby packs made from our own selection of printed fabrics or batiks. Jelly Tots, priced at £17, have twenty 2½" x 44" strips and Jelly Babies, priced at £8.50, have ten 2½" x 44" strips in each pack.
The shop is open from 10am to  4pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Christmas opening hours.
Shop closes for the Christmas holidays at 1pm on Saturday 21st December and reopens at 10am on Thursday 2nd January 2014.
Keep Sewing!
